IS PRIDE HIDING IN YOUR LIFE?

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
“Pride leads to disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.”
Proverbs 11:2 NLT
TODAY’S THOUGHT
Pride is sneaky. It slips into our hearts disguised as confidence, cloaked as independence, and dressed up as strength. On the surface, it may even look admirable—but its end is always destructive.
Think of the mighty oak tree standing tall in the forest. Its strength and stature make it appear unshakable. But when the storm comes, its stiff, unbending branches often snap under the pressure. In contrast, the smaller, flexible tree bends with the wind. Because it yields, it survives.
That’s what pride does to us—it makes us rigid. It resists correction, bristles at advice, and tries to prove strength by sheer will. But when the storms of life blow, pride cannot bend. The fall, when it comes, is often sudden and devastating.
Humility, however, makes us teachable. It softens our hearts to correction, opens us to wisdom, and frees us from the exhausting need to impress others. The humble person doesn’t mind if someone else gets the spotlight. They live with a quiet security—rooted not in what people think, but in knowing who they are, and more importantly, whose they are.
In God’s kingdom, the way up is always down.
Jesus Himself modeled this truth. He left the splendor of heaven, humbled Himself as a servant, and embraced the cross. Because of this, “God exalted Him to the highest place” (Philippians 2:9). The same God who exalted His Son still exalts the humble and humbles the proud.
Where might pride be hiding in your life today?
TODAY’S PRAYER
Holy Spirit, search my heart. Reveal where pride has crept in unnoticed. Teach me to humble myself before You and walk daily in dependence on Your grace. Keep me grounded in truth so my life stays on track. Amen.
